Life Through a Loving Lens
I've been drawn to photography since childhood.  Our household subscription to National Geographic inspired me to capture the breathtaking sights during family trips to West Virginia and around the country. Various cameras have joined me on many journeys since then.
When I started teaching I turned my lens toward my students. Photography became a powerful tool in reinforcing desired behaviors or celebrating success for students with cognitive disabilities. My goal was to capture the beauty in the people that I saw every day. The comedian, the gentle friend, the thoughtful philosopher . . . Whatever traits each student exemplified was what I wanted to show.
Through feedback and study I developed an eye for the shot that represented the best of what each child had to offer, without highlighting their challenges.
Today my goal is to offer anyone the gift of seeing themselves reflected through a loving lens, using a Canon dSLR, my 50mm or 85mm prime lenses, and the skills I learned as an educator and amateur photographer.
